The British Grand Prix was a Formula One motor race that took place on 16 July at the Silverstone Circuit in Silverstone, United Kingdom. This race.2017
From pole position, Hamilton took an early lead after a stoppage for Jolyon Palmer's Renault on the warm-up lap, the result of brake-by-wire and hydraulic problems, caused an aborted start and an extra formation lap. By the time Hamilton made his one and only stop on lap 25, he was 12 seconds clear of Raikkonen, and was never threatened thereafter as he raced to a fourth win of the season and his fifth victory at Silverstone, equalling Jim Clark and Alain Prost for British GP wins. Raikkonen held second, but Vettel came under pressure from Valtteri Bottas in the latter stages of the race, the Finn having recovered from ninth on the grid following his five-place grid drop. With Bottas going long on softs and then switching to supersofts, there was nothing Vettel could do to hold off the Mercedes driver, who moved ahead at Stowe on lap That meant Bottas completed a Mercedes , 14 seconds behind Hamilton, while Raikkonen took third a further 22 seconds back. Vettel had been set for fourth after being demoted by Bottas, and a potential podium after Raikkonen's dramas, but a dramatic front-left puncture for German as he entered Luffield on the penultimate lap saw him drop down to seventh.
This race was the seventy-second running of the British Grand Prix , the sixty-eighth time that the race has been run as a World Championship event, and the fifty-first time that the World Championship event has been held at the Silverstone Circuit. Ferrari driver Sebastian Vettel entered the round with a twenty-point lead over Mercedes 's Lewis Hamilton in the Drivers' Championship. Mercedes led Ferrari by thirty-three points in the Constructors' Championship. The race was dominantly won by Lewis Hamilton, who achieved a grand slam , starting from pole position, leading every lap of the race, setting fastest lap, and finally winning with a second lead over Mercedes teammate Valtteri Bottas. In contrast, his championship rival Sebastian Vettel suffered a tyre failure with two laps to go, subsequently only finishing seventh.
What happened at the British Grand Prix? Written by Matthew Clayton 17 July Daniel Ricciardo dramatically charges from the back to fifth, while some late-race Ferrari tyre drama sees Lewis Hamilton slash Sebastian Vettel's championship lead. Win, pole, fastest lap: Hamilton was untouchable. Lewis Hamilton: qualified 1st, finished 1st. Valtteri Bottas: qualified 4th, finished 2nd. Hamilton copped some stick before the race when he was the only driver not to show up at a pre-race promotional opportunity in London, but once he got to Silverstone from a brief holiday between the Austrian and British Grands Prix, the three-time champ was all business, winning his home race for a record-equalling fifth time, and a fourth time in succession.
Always wanted to come to the British GP and what an experience it was! We had a such a wonderful Was pleased to see taps for filling up your water Always the best day ever, been three years running will be a real shame when they stop the Grand Prix here can't think of a better circuit. First time I have visited the British Grand Prix with my mobility issues. Always watch the F1 on TV but decided to go to the event for a change. Stayed on Northampton area and used the park and ride.
The future of the British Grand Prix has been secured for the next five years with a new agreement between Formula 1 and Silverstone. This weekend's event was due to be the last after Silverstone ended its contract because it was too expensive. But after two years of negotiations, Silverstone and F1 bosses signed a new deal until in London on Tuesday. F1 chairman Chase Carey described the race at Silverstone as "an integral part" of the future of the sport. Carey said: "We have always said that, if it is to have a long-term future, our sport must preserve its historic venues and Silverstone and Great Britain represent the cradle of this sport, its starting point back in John Grant, chairman of Silverstone's owners, the British Racing Drivers' Club BRDC , said: "Silverstone is one of the most iconic Grands Prix on the F1 calendar and with such a rich heritage it would have been disastrous for the sport and fans had we not managed to find a way forward. Silverstone had been on the brink of signing a new contract last month only to pause when F1 informed the track of plans to hold a race in London in the next few years.

There is just a one-point gap between Hamilton and Sebastian Vettel at the top of the championship A tough one to take for Ferrari. Wolff also has a final word on Hamilton, criticised for not turning up at the F1 event in midweek.
